SPI Medical Imaging: Siemens Healthineers Sinks its Teeth into the Dental Market

Siemens Healthineers unveiled the world’s first dental-dedicated MRI scanner at European Congress of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology in June. The MAGNETOM Free.Max Dental Edition, a .55T system featuring DryCool magnet technology, is the result of a joint venture between Siemens Healthineers and Dentsply Sirona. According to the two companies, initial clinical trials have demonstrated the system’s potential in various dental applications, including third molar extraction, endodontics, temporomandibular disorders, periodontitis, and orthodontics.

Siemens Healthineers decision to enter the dental market raises questions around its MRI strategy, and the extent to which the market is ready for the modality.
