SPI Medical Imaging: Samsung’s Acquisition Offers Sonio the Best of Both Worlds

Samsung Medison has agreed to acquire Sonio SAS, a foetal ultrasound AI vendor. Sonio, founded in 2020 and headquartered in France, has developed IT solutions and AI assistant features for obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound that assist medical professionals in the evaluation and documentation of ultrasound exams. Samsung claims that the addition of Sonio’s AI expertise will facilitate “breakthrough AI-enhanced workflows and accelerate innovation in patient outcomes and quality of prenatal care.”

This acquisition highlights ultrasound OEM’s growing focus on AI and, as consolidation in the medical imaging AI sector continues, may be an example of a best-case scenario for many AI vendors.
