Over the past few years, the concept of interoperability in healthcare has shifted from best practice to a mandate.  Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is the most recent global data standard from HL7 International which aims to use web-centric technology to address barriers to healthcare data exchange.

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are an integral element of modern healthcare that not only preserve data in digital form, but also (in an ideal world) provide accurate, current, and complete information about patients at the point of care.  However, within the average US IDN, there can be multiple EHR systems in place, resulting in data silos because software within these networks lacks the ability to “talk” to each other and to share data seamlessly.

The key to removing data silos and connecting EHR systems together with the sea of software in use in today’s healthcare ecosystem is FHIR.  As a result, EHR vendors are aware that they must adopt FHIR to meet their customers’ needs and increase their market penetration.

In recent conversations with US-based EHR vendors, Signify Research gathered insights into their perspectives on FHIR, its application to their IT architecture, and their adaptation to new data exchange regulations and customer demands.  This webinar highlights key findings and will be of value to stakeholders such as health IT vendors, providers, developers, and FHIR implementors working in health data interoperability.

The key topics include:

  • Examining vendors’ views on interoperability and the role it plays in relation to their IT solutions.
  • Understanding vendors’ product and technology needs and challenges as it relates to FHIR.
  • Exploring how vendors are addressing evolving regulations on the path to interoperability.
  • Providing insights into how vendors juggle compliance with the need for product innovation.
